Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program
  2. Acquire the skills and confidence necessary to plan and carry out a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity
  3. Increase the leaders knowledge of the resources available from the BSA for carrying out this activity

Elements of this training include:

  • Aims and purposes of the BSA outdoor program
  • Health and safety issues
  • Program elements
  • Campfire planning
  • Campfire demonstration
  • Outdoor equipment
  • Planning for success

The new BALOO program is redesigned to better aid leaders trying to have a great time in outdoor activities with their packs. The first part is an online component, taken at, which covers the classroom basics of planning and organizing a pack camp-out or outdoor outing. The second part is the hands-on practical camping weekend where participants get to learn the how-to's start to finish of having fun in the outdoors with Cub Scouts. Outdoor elements of the Cub Scout program get special attention.

The overnight component is required and you will not receive credit unless you attend the entire course.

Follow the BALOO "plan" and the Cub Scouts in your pack should have a memorable outdoor camping experience! For more information contact Beth Maxwell.

Training will be held at South Platte Valley Historical Park, 2001 Historic Park Way, Fort Lupton, CO  80621
