The Denver Area Council will be conducting a Scouting for Food - Spring Edition, the week of April 18th through the 24th, 2021.  All Scouting units are encouraged to participate in this council-wide community service initiative. Scouting for Food participation will inspire our young people and teach them the importance of community service as a key ingredient in Citizenship! It will also reinforce Scouting's positive contribution to the general community. Because of the pandemic, the need for Scouting for Food is greater than ever before!

COVID-19 CONSIDERATIONS

Each unit committee, and family participating in Scouting for Food needs to determine if participating in Scouting for Food is a good fit for their unit and membership. The unit committee should review the “Restart Scouting Checklist”  and establish protocols and procedures for your unit.

Scouting for Food will be de-centralized and units will be making specific arrangements with local food pantries in their specific communities to find a receiving agency for the food they collect. A list of partnering agencies will be provided to the unit once they register to participate in Scouting for Food. If a unit has a chartering organization or knows of an organization that would benefit from receiving the collected food, you are more than welcome to make individual arrangements to deliver the food. We are asking units on the Western Slope to choose a local food bank or pantry to donate to.

DOOR HANGERS

After you complete the registration process, the staff advisor for this event will e-mail you to ask how many door hangers your unit will need. In the event you run out, feel free to use the digital files below to print out as many as you need for your unit!

COLLECTION

Filled bags should be left out overnight and picked up by the morning of Saturday, April 24, 2021, beginning at 7 a.m.

Units will need to track the total number of items of food collected and the number of participating Scouts to include on their Scouting for Food report before delivering the food to their receiving organization.

Each unit should select a Scouting for Food Coordinator and begin planning for a successful food drive.

Reporting After the Drive

All your unit service hours will be recorded in Internet Advancement. Furthermore, all Good Turn for America service hours entries, except Eagle Service Projects, are now available in Internet Advancement.

NOTE: Councils should still enter Eagle Scout Service Projects using current tools as Eagle Scout Service Project hours remain in Good Turn for America. For Exploring Service Hours continue to use Good Turn for America.
