Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd to raise awareness and support for environmental protection. The first Earth Day was held in 1970, and it is now observed by millions of people in over 190 countries around the world.  With Conservation and Outdoor Ethics being a central theme for all BSA programs, Earth Day has a special significance to us!

To celebrate Earth Day this year, the Council Conservation Committee will be hosting an event on Saturday, April 20, 2024 called Good Turn for Ecology Day!  In the Scouting spirit of giving service, we will rendezvous at Sloan's Lake Park and spend the morning performing tasks to improve one of Denver's favorite outdoor recreation sites.

Work will include tree mulching, weeding, painting and debris removal and will be broken down into projects designed to safely accommodate Cub Scouts, older Scouts and adults.

Units that participate together will qualify for the BSA Conservation Good Turn certificate.  All attendees who are registered members of the Greater Colorado Council will qualify for the BSA Conservation Good Turn patch. For Scouts BSA members who are pursuing their Life rank, this event will provide 4 hours of conservation-related service.

The Conservation Committee is working with Denver Parks & Recreation to plan this event.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Art Dawson at Art.Dawson@gmail.com.  We are especially interested in youth Staff members who enjoy planning and executing large events!

Registration will open for Good Turn for Ecology Day on February 17th.  If you plan to attend, please visit this link on or after that day and sign up.  Denver Parks & Rec needs to know how many of us there will be in order to prepare for us.  Attendance will be free.  During registration you will be able to sign-up for a certificate or patches for a small fee.

We look forward to seeing you at Good Turn for Ecology Day!
