VIRTUAL Collaboration for Grades 3, 4 & 5

Hosted by KidSpace Launch

Design a greenhouse on the Moon!

You're the engineering team tasked with designing the new Artemis Lunar Greenhouse. Life Cannot be sustained on the moon without food! We need your genius to develop a safe, efficient and productive design.

We invite Cub Scouts and Nova Counselors to an active learning experience designed to provide high resolution, state-of-the-art, real-time date on water quantity and quality. You will learn how NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) are planning the new Lunar base named Artemis. Launch into the next generation of human habitation in space. Learn how to survive on the moon and what it takes to create a habitat for sustained life.

Scouts will read and research current NASA/ESA plans for the lunar base and growing food in space. Video presentations. Participate in a virtual tour of a aerospace facility. Participate in virtual online design groups. Present their group design to Subject Matter Experts.

Four Virtual Sessions - projected times are 10 - 11:00 AM

November 6 - Present Topic / Describe the Challenge / SME Presentation Student
November 20 - Progress Reports / SME Presentation TBA
December 4 - Student Progress Reports / Elevator Pitches / SME Presentation TBA
December 11 - Student Solutions Presented / Sustainability Proposals

SME (Subject Matter Experts) – Participation from  Lockheed Martin, NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, Geologist from Colorado School of Mines, Ball Aerospace, City of Westminster and more!

You will employ an agile approach to the collaboration so that all parties take part in the design and direction of the project. Experiential learning will be a priority as students actively participate, create solutions, take initiative, and apply what they learn to the real world. Every effort to listen to the "student voice" will be made. Activity groups will consist of between 4 and 7 Scouts, led by an SME and Nova Counselor.

Cub Scouts , who participate, will work with their Nova Counselor, and will be able to earn the Nova module "Out of this World".

Completion may require one additional virtual session. If you have any questions, please contact;
