Welcome to the 2020 Powder Horn Experience to be held Friday, August 14, 2020 to Sunday August 16, 2020 at beautiful Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch. Powder Horn is designed to expose youth and adult leaders in the Scouts BSA - 14 and over, Venturing and Sea Scout program to high adventure, robust activities and resources necessary to enhance your unit, district or council outing and events. Lyn Bair will be our Course Director.

This Experience is designed to help youth and adults to safely conduct activities of a fun and challenging nature. The Experience is not a total training program or certification in any of the event, however there will be some aspects of the Venturing Range Award that can be fulfilled. Achieving the Powder Horn dangle requires the participant to complete eight out of 10 events. Physical participation is NOT mandatory. Merely observing the session will be sufficient.

  • Expedition Planning
  • World Scouting

  • Hands Only CPR
  • Plus a keynote speaker familiar with climbing 8000 meter peaks

Activities you can add at an additional cost:

  • Explore SCUBA ($35 and limited to 20 people)
  • Shotgun 5 Stand ($35 for 50 - 100 rounds)

There will be a $50 non-refundable deposit with the balance due in full by July 15, 2020. A BSA Health Form parts A, B and C are required for this event.

Lunch on Friday, August 14 is the first meal provided. Breakfast on Sunday, August 16 is the last meal provided. 

Prerequisites and training required:

  • Registered member of the BSA
  • Leader Specific Training for Adult Leaders
  • Youth must have completed the unit's version of leadership training (Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops, Ships, or Crews). Previous attendance at NYLT is recommended for youth participants but not required.
